Matthew J Nelson is a Minnehaha County native, Army veteran, small business owner, and proven leader who understands what it takes to manage people, budgets, and real-world challenges. Born in Minnehaha County, Matthew learned the values that make this community strong from his family—hard work, accountability, and taking care of what matters most.

Matthew brings proven operational leadership experience from the military, private sector, and local government. He has led large teams, managed multimillion-dollar budgets, and overseen complex systems that require efficiency, accountability, and results. In his current role with the City of Sioux Falls, he manages utility billing and public parking operations—focusing on improving processes, modernizing services, and delivering reliable, customer-focused outcomes. Whether leading soldiers, managing retail operations, or running critical public services, Matthew’s approach is consistent: set clear expectations, hold teams accountable, and ensure resources are used wisely.
